Keep this on your home screen

It then opens like an app, and works with no connection at all. There is nothing to download from a store.

On an iPhone or iPad

iOS never offers this by itself, which is why most people do not know it exists. It must be done in Safari; Chrome on iOS cannot do it.

  1. Open this page in Safari

    If you are reading this in another app, tap the address and open it in Safari.

  2. Tap the Share button

    The square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (or the top on an iPad).

  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen

    It is below the row of apps, in the list of actions. You may need to scroll a little.

  4. Tap Add

    The icon appears on your home screen and opens without the browser bars.

On Android

  1. Look for the install prompt

    Chrome usually offers “Install app” or “Add to Home screen” on its own.

  2. If it does not appear, use the menu

    Three dots at the top right, then Add to Home screen or Install app.

  3. Long-press the icon afterwards

    It offers shortcuts straight to checking a message, checking a link, or checking a sender.
